Dear Pat, In the fall of '97 I wrote to you seekingy your support of my applicstion for promotionto the Academic Rank of Professor. It is with deep gratification that I can report to you, that my promotion has recently been approved and will become effective with the begining of the 1999-2000 Academic year. The reason for the delay is reflected in the need to satisfy the "Qualifications and Procedure for Promoting to Professor Extraordinary Faculty Who Do Not Hold A Terminal Degree" as specified on our Faculty Handbook. It is my understanding that this policy - requiring review and approval by the department P&T (twice); the University Criteria and Screening: and the Department P&TCommittees - is being evaluated and may undergo revision in the forseeable future. Perhaps changes will permit other "extraordinary" faculty to pursue their promotional career goals in a more timely fashion. Your responsive to my appeal for support of my promotion was truly overwhelming.
